A little back story about Beckham County!
Beckham County was created in February 1904 from parts of Carter, Elliott, Lewis, and Rowan counties and named for J.C.W. Beckham, then governor. The county seat was Olive Hill. It was dissolved in April of the same year by a court ruling. It covered about 286 square miles, short of the constitutionally required minimum of 400 square miles for new counties. It also failed the 12,000 minimum population test. The boundary shown on the map is approximate. Over the years the kindred ship of these communities has remained strong. Our two teams have played 46 times with West holding a 26-20 edge on the gridiron. This game can never be seen as a rivalry game, but more of a friendly neighborly challenge. The cry should always be “We are all Beckham County brothers”, or something like that. The first Beckham County Bowl will be on October 20th at LCHS. See you there.
